1944: The German Naval High Command temporarily halted preparations for Operation Sealion, seeing that at this stage of the war an invasion of Britain was not likely to happen.

1944: Oberstleutnant Egon Mayer became the first German Luftwaffe fighter pilot operating solely on the western front to reach 100 victories. He would claim just two more before being killed on 2 Mar 1944 whilst attacking a formation of B-17 bombers near Sedan, France.
