1943: The US submarine Corvina was torpedoed and sunk by the Japanese submarine I-176 south of Truk, Caroline Islands. I-176 launched three Type95 torpedoes with two hitting Corvina. All 82 aboard Corvina were lost.

1945: 88 German rocket scientists were brought into the United States.
